Over the years, Recovery Month has developed a repository of addiction treatment and recovery materials for public use. In this section, you can search our resources for specific audiences and topics.

As new material is developed and released by the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, it will be integrated into the Recovery Month website

Working with Special Populations

Much of the past research on addictions has focused on middle class, white men. Yet, in our treatment of clients, we encounter people from a wide array of diverse backgrounds. Fortunately, increasing numbers of clinicians realize that one-size-fits-all approaches are not suitable given the increasing diversity in the populations that seek substance abuse treatment services.

This section will provide you with educational materials covering several special populations: Adolescents, Families, the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender populations, Minorities, Women, and the Elderly.

These PowerPoint presentations were created and delivered by students in the Summer 2009 University of Georgia School of Social Work course SOWK 7273: Clinical Practice with Addictive Disorders. Click on each thumbnail to download the presentation.
